Fixing Plastic

Just got another 1985 Honda Gyro and some of the plastic is cracked .
I have a plastic welder but the crack lines up pretty good , And was wondering if anyone has some trick ways of repairing it , Im thinking a good glue (not super glue ) might do the job ? Has anyone got any great glue suggestions or other ways to repair and ??? sand the plastic . I would like all input and think this could be helpfull to a lot of the members .

i havent found anything other than melting it back together that works with that type of plastic. that panel is made of the same plastic that the inner leg shield and rear fenders are mad out of right? if its ABS you can use some scraps of abs and some MEK, and make a glue/filler with it that works great. just use fiberglass mat as a backer to give it some strength.

In a situation like that I would just use MEK and abs pieces to chemically weld it. Abs cement for plumbing would work too. In a pinch you could use this:

It is a Methyl based acid that gives you chemical and mechanical bond. Just make sure to take a dremel on the backside of the crack make a v-shaped groove. This will make a channel, and then fill that in. I would use the aluminum tape used for heating ducts on the front of the crack to keep the pieces together.

Like Turtle, I think that piece is polypropylene rather than ABS. In that case the MEK will not work and plastic welding would be your best bet.

Drill holes and sew it using plastic tie wraps. Make sure to combine different colors to add more pimp factor.

if you are unsure of what type of plastic it is made of, look at the end where it is broken and see if it is the same color all the way through. if it is not, and it is white in the middle it is ABS. if it is solid black all the way through it is definitely poly.
