Today I replaced the plugged/plugging muffler on my 1988 Elite SA50 with a new original muffler purchased from BikeBandit. But before doing the switch I took both mufflers and weighed tham at the scale in the Post Office. Both mufflers were made by same company and had same part number. The heat shields were removed and the mud & crud on the outside of the old muffler was cleaned off. The weight results are as follows: Old plugged muffler...5 pounds 10.3 ounces; new muffler...4 pounds 15 ounces. That's 11.3 ounces or almost 3/4 of a pound (plus maybe a fraction more...the old muffler had a .5" hole drilled in the aft end) more for the old muffler! If that's all carbon, that would be quite a pile of it. No wonder it was plugged!
Scoot now runs great with the new muffler.

Next time you can put it in the bonfire to burn the carbon instead of spending in a new muffler.

Greetings:
The Bonfire can work, but new is New! Factory paint and that wonderful new Muff smell!
Useful info, Rambler! If you have the Part Number, can you post it up?
Maybe we can get others to post weights for other new mufflers to allow future Forum readers to determine how carbonized their pipes are.
Perhaps we can Wiki the list?
