Questions on 90/90-10 tires....

Ok, got a set of metropolitan rims....installing them into my Aero 50 this Spring.

Wanted to know some options for tires to properly fit onto these rims. Any suggestions/ links?

Perhaps some dumb questions, but I'd like to verify the following:

1) Is it OK to put on a tube-type tire onto a tubless-spec rim? (such as the metro rim)

2) Is a 3.00-10 inner tube compatible/ a good match with a 90/90-10 tire?

3) Is it best to have a tire shop put a tubeless tire onto the rim?

4) Many of the 90/90-10 tire listings I have found online don't spec if it's tubeless or not....any insight?

Greetings:

There ae a couple of reasons not to install tubes on your Met rims. One is the valve stem. The hole isn't the correct size for the tube.
Another is that you're adding unnecessary - and unsprung - weight to the rim/tire assembly.

If you insist on cutting off the perfectly good valve stem and re-sizing the hole in the rim, then yes, you can fit a tube. I recommend you do not.

I would be very surprised if you found any current 90/90 that isn't designed as a tubeless. The tires usually carry the stamped instruction:
"For Tube-Type Rims, Fit Tube". That's usually onlyfor laced-spoke wheels on Mini-Motocrossers. If your tire choice turns out to be truly tube-type only, consider a different tire.
I've been satisfied with Pirelli SL-26 for $22 at MotorcycleSuperstore.com.

Mounting the tires yourself can be done with surprising ease. Good lubrication and Gorilla Wheel-Hands are keys to success.
Many shops don't have the machines for 10" rims, and some will bend the rim trying. See Tech Docs for Wheelman's method.

The only reason I need a tire shop (Discount Tires, where I've purchased several sets of car tires...) Is that I don't have a big air compressor.
You need a high-volume, high-pressure air supply to pop the tire beads over the bead-retaining strip on the rims.

My little 2 gallon air compressor will seat the bead fine, a carefully positioned ratchet strap will hold the beads against the rim while building pressure

I have Dunlop TT-92 tires and they are usually $60-70 a pop. They are the tubeless variety, and awesome in the dry.
