Fixing to put in the big bore kit..

Post by cubdriver »

I bought a 44mm Big Bore kit and am going to upgrade the non-running spree (weak compression). Since I am going to pull the whole motor off and clean everything up to do this, any other suggestions while I am in the process?

Any step by step do's and don't for replacing the cylinder?

Thanks!

changing out is straight forward, but put a lite coat oil in the bore when slipping in the piston. oh and get your head milled to match the cylinder. i run a 90/80:1 premix along with my oil pump. and figue out if your going to use the stock air box or a free flow air filter. and get to your local honda shop and order some jets. part number 99101-187-0xx0 the xx replace with the jet size. did the kit come with a 95 or 100 jet? i run an 85. but use the 95-100 for break in. do heat cycles in 30-1 min up to like well i did up to 5 mins. oh and buy a few x-tra NGK BRS or bprs 6 heat range plugs.

Thanks!, the kit came will all the goodies - new jet, etc.

I've changed a lot of pistons and cylinders, but never in a spree.

thanks so much for all the knowledgeable input.

sorry not everyone is such a super genious as yourself with these mopeds.

keep the dumb stuff to yourself.
If you would like to revive the Spree, a BBK would be a good option, as long as your expectations are not high. The most you could get out of it would be 35-40mph. The only one making a BBK for it is Taz on this forum. He also sells them on Ebay

If its speed your after, "Dude Swap in a Dio"

I have a spare SYM dd50 stock manifold and carbeurator. does anyone know if the SYM dd50 stock carb can be used with the spree?? what about a SYM stock exhaust with the spree.

only reason i ask is the bike needs new carb, bore, and pipe and I already have the DD50 carb and pipe just curious if that would bolr up or not.

any advise would be greatly appreciated.
O and by the way nice thread jackin!

That base gasket covers some of the boost port.(rear intake port)
Trim it to match.

Make sure the "EX" on the piston faces the exhaust port.

Try not to over bend the G clip wrist pin connectors. (don't want them popping out) :surprise:

The carb might bolt up....but the spee shock might not clear the dd50 carb.
The dd50 intake will not work with the spree.
The SYM pipe will not bolt up either.

Polini does not make a kit for a spree engine.
