1984 spree with 31 miles on it

Post by cookiemonster131 »

okay i bought an 84 spree with 31 miles on it. stuck a NOS tank on it and rebuilt the carb and new petcock. got it running like a top straight to 28 mph BUT after 1/2 mile or so it dies out. if i start it in the shop and let it idle for 2-3 minutes it dies out. sometimes it will fire right back up but most times not. gotta let it sit for 1 minute or 2 and it starts right bacvk up. petcock is new and fuel line and vacuum line are new. got any ideas?

Sounds like the carb is not filling with gas I would check the float level

Disconnect the wires to it and try that. I did with my Gyro which had the same symptoms and it started and ran.

First off if it ran that long it is not the bystarter. It would more likely be the vent in the gas cap. Loose the cap and run the scooter again and see what happens. Again the students trying to be teachers.

Tank is new old stock, petcock is brand new as of last night. The flow out the gas line is pretty solid and consistent. As for the internals I felt certain it was clean but I guess I will start there when I take it back apart.

Sorry Bear, but it did resolve my running issue on the Gyro. Although I had more issues than that and Mouse ended up replacing the carb on it and that fixed everything.
