Kickstart seized - Face drive welded up?

didnt want to hijack so started my own thread. I found this part site with the parts I may need

http://www.hondapartshouse.com/#/Honda/ ... GR14E0600A

can anybody explain what has been done to my newly purchased scoot? I finally got around to getting the cover off to examine why my kickstarter is seized up. It looks like all the parts are there but perhaps somebody welded the face drive? This bums me out but maybe i can still get it to work, if the kick spindle can like up properly? ADVICE APPRECIATED!

Looks like the guy before you stripped the splines on the crank and welded the drive face onto the crank.

Sorry man, but I think you got screwed.

yep.. some people only know how to half * s***. i guess next time i buy a scoot i should inspect better! oh well it was cheap so might as well make the best of it. anybody know what kinds of engine swaps my 87 elite would accept? any newer dio engines mountable?

thanks

You can replace the entire engine or upgrade to a dio. However a dio will take some fabrication skill.

if you want to keep the engine you could always try to hunt down a replacement crankshaft and another drive face :D or make sure you have a good electric starter and keep your battery charged.

87-93 Elite motors are bolt in. 94-01 Dio motors need some fabricating.

cool thanks. i'm not too bummed, i suppose belt replacement is still doable, but what maintenance requires removal of the drive face? Regardless, the scoot runs and drives great.

So im not familiar if kickstart spindle gear and where it engages so could this functionality be repaired? just curious if that requires part of the welded up area, or does it engage on the drive face teeth? if so it should work.

appreciate the input guys! great group of scoot enthusiasts here.

cheers

The '85-87 Aero 50 engine will also bolt in ('86-87 are the better two).

Belt replacement will be difficult. Roller, slides, ramp plate and variator replacement will not be doable unless you remove the weld.

If you grind down the weld, you may be able to get a new plate on there with the kickstart teeth but you would have to space out the belt cover to compensate for the weld.
