Video: Help diagnose the chattering/rattling?

Post by Bellinghamster »

Here is the video I posted:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMzHe_wTt0o

My '85 Spree has a strange chattering/rattling issue and I can't tell where it's coming from. I've never noticed it before, but I've also never ran it without the side plastic on.

And yes, I am aware it's running rough. I need to clean and adjust the carb, I do every Spring after winter storage and then it runs smoothly. It's this chattering/rattle thing I'm worried about.

Thanks, all!

With the engine running that rough, I can't tell anything. Fix that and see if the noise you hear is gone.

did you do anything to the motor? bbk? take it apart? with its idle that rough can be anything rattling. it almost sounds like when my piston was to small for the bore..

I agree. It sounds like piston slap. (piston too small for the bore)
Did you install the piston with the ring gaps in the rear?

Mine has a similar "ting" to it. Once it's warm it goes away which would say it's piston slap.
