somethings about exhausts

Post by stankyoleman »

i have an 86 spree, outfitted with an 89 elite e sb50 engine.. (courtesy of greg (gman75) :) )

the exhaust that was on there when i got it was slightly boxish in shape, but with well rounded edges...

my other exhaust from my scrapped 85 spree has a much more rounded muffler... it's basically a complete cylinder.

i was wondering if anyone knew if this was just related to a model change, or which one is stock for a spree normally...

it seems i might have alittle more pull with the rounded muffler... not sure i just threw it on and started it up. it seemed alittle louder too, more like a dirtbike.

well i got a chance to ride with the second exhaust on tonite....

pickup was unbelievable, ton of low end power... but when i got to about 25-26, the engine bogged down so bad... and my speed dropped right down, then picked up alittle bit, etc...

i'm thinking the second exhaust i just put on has some serious carbon clogging going on... i'll try some of the methods posted here this weekend probably... and see if i have any better results.

did you go out riding right after you started your scoot? if so it might still needed warming up.

yeah sort of, pretty much just took off about 30 secs or so after startup, i didnt go far just down the end of my street, and after it got to about 25 it bogged down bad....

i put my other exhaust back on and it worked fine again. i think the other one might be clogged with carbon deposits.

The rounded design is the older one, 84/85. Box design is 86/87. Muffler's probably clogged, there's lots of info in tech docs on cleaning these.
