AF05E Big Bore Kit - What size jet?

Post by smokindon »

I've purchased a Polini 65cc Big Bore Kit for my 88 Elite SA50. I'm running a stock carb and everything else stock for now. I want to know what size jet to run with this setup. Also, I'm looking to run premix instead of the oil injection. I've found plugs but only for the later AF16 engine. Can someone give me a link for one for the AF05? What else do I need to do to get rid of the oil pump?

I appreciate any help thanks guys.

Greetings:

Consider starting with a #90 jet for the PA carb with a stock airbox. Daytona sells jet kits to 105. DayWOT and perhaps VT Cycles had/has/can get them. JiangWayne.ca also stocked them at least at one time.

I'm not certain, but someone here can tell you if the pump plugs for the AF16 fit. I seem to recall they might. Try TrafficJamz? It's not ideal, but you can slip the shaft out of the pump and use the pump itself.

Just to make you guys aware, those are not the stock honda jets for the pa style carburetors. :*:
I purchased some and the part number is not for elite/aero/spree carbs. Look closely. Bones

Good catch...I didn't notice that. Disregard my recommendation.

I ended up going with the Malossi MHR 72cc aluminum bbk from RedEft Performance on this site since it came with a main jet and carbon reeds. It did come with a main jet but I'm not sure of the size.

I also purchased the Dio oil plug and it did fit fine.

I suppose RedEft would be the one to ask about what size jet comes with the kit. Just don't want to run the new setup too lean.

Hello the Malossi kit for the af05 is actually 65cc. 65cc is the biggest bore you can get for that motor. I dont know what size the main jet is that comes with the kit. I would not rely on the jet that comes in the kit. I would suggest following wheelmans advice above.

Are these the correct jets? It is confusing trying to figure out which parts will work since I have an SA50 with the AF05E

It's in! Now I just have to finish cleaning the case and put everything else back together while I wait for the jets to come in.

I have the carbon reeds installed but I have seen a thread on here where a member named Bear recommended modifying the reed stop for use with the carbon reeds. Specifically, he recommended removing the portion that stops the reeds and leaving the top section where it mounts so as to prevent the reeds from cracking there. Any thoughts on trying this?

I could be wrong but I think your head should be turned 90 degrees. The air won't be able to flow across them like that.
