Run Then Dies

Post by hondanoob »

ok so i just got spree from a friend and he hadden run it in about a year. so i get new gas oil and a plug. after a few kicks players and luck it starts. i let it idle for about a minute. then i give it a little gas. it then almost dies i let off the gas and it goes back to running at idle. i also race go karts and i had remembered one day at the track my yamaha kt 100 motor did the same thing. we tried everything. we had somehow come to find that when i stuck my hand over the air intake it ran great. first we thought a vacume leak. nope that wasnt it. it was about 50 degrees that day and we finaly figures out it was fuel separation from oil. and that the gas had some water in it. so back to the honda. i remembered that so i tried covering the intake and by golie it worked. it ran great. i took the air box off and stuck a paper towel into the air intake and it ran pretty good. i took it out and it wont move. i changed the gas and still the same thing. what do u guys think it is?

Make sure you have a clean air filter or install a new one.

Take it off the bike. Take it apart and clean the entire inside with carburetor cleaner. Unscrew the main jet and make sure you see light through the holes. Use liberal amounts of carb cleaner and make sure it is spotless inside the carburetor. The key word here is clean. clean, clean.

also...you wouldnt want something like a small pebble or something getting (somehow, ya never know) sucked into the carb....that would be REALLY bad....

What settings do you guys use for the idle? And what setting do you use for the air/fuel mixture?
