Plug Heat range etc.. questions

Post by Ceej »

I'm running a BP6HS. Is the Projected electrode the way to go? That's what my parts house spec'd for the Spree. I pulled a standard B8HS out of it.

Somewhere I read that the 8 heat range was preferred when the Spree is ridden at high speed for extended periods of time. Does that mean two miles? Five miles? Further than around the block?

The battery is slag, so I'm going to pick one up tonight. Because of the poor cranking performance, I had to unplug the enrichment solenoid to keep the poor thing from flooding. Once it's going all's well.

Has anyone put a switch in series with the enrichment circuit to hold it out for hot starts? I don't think it will be necessary once I put a decent battery in. Could vastly improve starting when it's toasty out, and the engine is hot. Sure wish they'd put a manual enrichment cable on instead.

I didn't see a crank drain. Is there one?

Thanks,

Ceej

Long range is probably 15-30 minutes. Use what's called out, may want to check clearance, last guy may have milled the head.

Never seen a bystarter cutout, but never needed one either. Warms starts after 30 seconds have never been a problem.

For a manual "enricher," swap the entire carb with a 15mm Dellorto, which has a manual choke.

No idea what a crank drain is, crankcase drain no. You get to puke all that cruddy oil on your new plug. Once you get it to run, leave it run for 5-10 minutes so it clears out.

OK. I'll check the piston to head distance with a dial indicator tonight.

What's the torque spec for the head? The link I had for that seems to be broken.

Thank You!

May want to d/l the service manual in tech docs.

Otherwise, it's 9-15 ft-lbs, by memory.

i know when I was drivin my spree with a BP6HS it would overheat after only about maybe a mile, but then when I went to the BP8HS, it ran fine, even in winter.
