After not having been ridden in 6 months my Spree was taking about 30 minutes worth of kickstarting to start, the battery being dead so the electric start was not an option.
I then bought a new battery (and spark plug) which allowed me to use the electric start, which would turn over but the scooter would still not start.
I then got a new auto-bystarter, and now the electric start won't even turn over. However, the kick starter gets the scooter to start within 3 kicks.
Any ideas on why this series of changes would have happened?

Re: '86 Spree electric start problem
Your main starter relay could've died. Do you hear any clicking when you push the start button? If not, grab a pair of leather gloves and needle nose pliers. Remove the right side rear cover and look for an "Omron" relay. Remove the wiring harness. Put on the leather gloves (Or just use a rag or something so you don't get shocked.) use the needle nose pliers to get into the wiring harness and short the two heavy-gauge red wires. The bike should crank. If not, check the wiring harness on the left side of the bike that goes straight to the starter. That could've gotten knocked loose.

I started riding my uncle's 87 Spree at the drag strip when I was 8...
It's easier to stop caring three years ago than it is to fix it in present time.

Thank you, that helped!
Re: '86 Spree electric start problem
The chances of getting shocked by 12 volts is nil, nada, not going to happen.

I have an86 and haven't ridden in a while and went to start with a fully charged battery and it wont start either. Also, I hear no clicking noise.

Try the same thing with the relay wiring harness.
