93 Honda Elite Crankshaft splines are gone, I need help!!!!!

Post by Jason1C4 »

I recently got scooter for free! I have been working to make it nice. I have been looking at this site for awhile and you guys have really helped me out. Now I have a big problem. The drive face nut came loose and stripped out the splines on the crankshaft. Now the drive face sometimes spins and only goes about 20mph. I would like to find a reasonable priced crankshaft to put in it or I have a chance to buy a 87 SE50 entire motor and trans. Will that swap in and everything work off my SA50 for that or am I going in the wrong direction?

sell the af05e block. ( dont split the crankcase), sell the carb. sa50 rear rim only.

dont waste time on build af05e motoe to swap crank.. great for spree or sb50 motor swap.

take rear v pulley unit w/14mm nut.. airbox complete w/ bracket. stock intake w/ reed.
get a dio moto.

There is a trick you can do. Grind the boss down a couple mm and then you will be able to get the drive face to seat on the splines again. I have done this many times for broke customers. lol.

I did that on one of mine and the kick start won't grab it very well. Is there maybe a better nut we can use? Mine constantly backs itself off the threads no matter how hard I tighten it.

I might be able to do that. The only thing I'm concerned with is being able to take the nut off to change weights.

There are different kind of Loctites : strong, medium, etc...to unscrew strong type you must be able to heat the bolt.

Well if your electric start works your good to go. The kick start will still work if you dont take to much off the boss. And yes allways use loctite on the skinny shafts. Its called piece of mind.

Also if you take to much off the boss it will stress the belt.

Yes, I think it is Loctite 242. Red is permanent.

Greetings:

I've used the stuff often enough not to place too much trust in the "Permanence" of Red Loctite. It can be coaxed free, even if correctly applied. It takes a Buttload O' Torque to unscrew the stuff, but it's not like welding. To maximize the chance of a good application, the threads have to be cleaned scrupulously with acetone, and the fastener torqued down promptly after application. Even then, don't trust your life to it.

And what about a special washer or a "nylstop" bolt?
