how do i check if a petcock is good

How do I go about checking if the petcock is still good?

with the motor not running just unplug the hose from the carb if gas come out then its notgood...

Determine which hose is VACUUM (runs from intake manifold to petcock.)
Remove FUEL hose from carburetor and place end into a jar or can to catch the gas.
If fuel runs freely from this hose, the petcock has failed.
If fuel does NOT run out, but starts running when you suck on the VACUUM hose, petcock is good.
Be cautious about putting any hose in your mouth unless you are SURE you have it correct.
