BBK kit on my 85 Aero makes the engine louder?

Post by Pismobear »

Installed my bbk from VT cycles it is a 65cc and it runs fantastic. I am trying to take it easy and break it in right but it has this sound that sounds like a 2 stroke dirt bike. Like when you would put a playing card in the spokes of your bicycle when you were a kid. It sounds like it is coming from the cylinder but I am hoping it is just the reeds slapping louder. Sorry if that sounds dumb, remember I am a new guy so stupid questions make me learn the basics. VT gave me an extra head gasket. Said some guys like to run 2 gaskets. That didn't make sense to me so I put on one.

It runs great and wants to pull the wheel up. If I was smaller I bet it would do a wheelie.

I cleaned everything.
Didn't let any dirt of old gasket material fall in to the case.
I made sure the clips where in right, triple checked that.
lubed it up as I assembled it.

What do you guys think?
You gotta stop, hey, whats that sound? Everybody look.. Ah whatever.

It sounds like an exhaust leak. The stock muffler often won't mate properly with an aftermarket cylinder. Try removing the muffler mounting bolts and tightening the head attach nuts where the pipe attaches to the cylinder. If it goes quiet, then you have to modify the muffler attach fitting.
