Okay.
So I was thinking about getting a Taz big bore kit... and I was wondering if anyone thinks spraying a coat or two of high-temp paint on the outside of the cylinder would affect the cooling. I know that these are really sensitive to their cooling properties, so I figured I'd ask before I screw up my motor lol... It's just that after seeing how rusty my current cylinder fins are, I kinda want to protect any new ones I'd install. Obviously I'd mask off everything except the fins, etc.
Thanks for the input
Nick

Painting the cylinder...
Black 85 Spree-SOLD
Red 87 Spree... Ended up buying the same one mentioned below.
I started riding my uncle's 87 Spree at the drag strip when I was 8...
It's easier to stop caring three years ago than it is to fix it in present time.

Re: Painting the cylinder...
Greetings:
Cast iron surface rusts quickly, but corrosion stops there. Paint probably insulates a little, and probably won't stop corrosion for long. It's under shrouds, unseen. You gain little, risk much.
Let it rust.

Re: Painting the cylinder...
Air cooled cylinders should not be painted. Heat transference is how the cylinder bore scrubs off heat. When you paint it, the paint works as an insulator and diminishes the cooling capacity of the fins.
