CPU ? Am i being fed bull ?

Hi again

I have been given an opportunity to buy a 2001 jazz for $100
in decent shape
going to pick it up in a few days

the girl is selling it so cheap as she was told by the bike shop it needed a $400 dollar CPU
is that true ?!?
even being a four stroke, i didn't think they actually had CPU units in them, nevermind ones that cost $400 !!

is this something i am going to be able to find ?
are they feeding her bull ?

i will have more information on friday after i pick it up
just wanted to see if i could get some insight before hand

I can't seem to find the jazz on the list at cheap cycle parts website. I wonder what year it came out, I'm curious now.

Alright, the Honda jazz as its called here in Canada is the metropolitan in the US. The model is CHF50. It was produced from 2002 to 2005. If it is the chf50 the ecu or control box part number is 30400-GET-672 cheap cycle parts has it for $280 there is also a CH50p as well the box for it is $295. If you Google the part number you may find it cheaper. If that is the problem with the scooter. If I were to have the chance to grab one of those scooters for $100 I'd do it. Before you go buying expensive parts, go and do all of the maintenance stuff first. So new sparkplug, new air filter, oil change. Check the condition of the battery as well, if it has water in it make sure the cells are topped up with distilled water. Those have a carb on them so if it doesn't run right it may need cleaning, and there is a sensor on the carb as well, it could be toast and sending wrong data to the controller. So you may not have to spend the money on the controller. Here in my area in Nova Scotia Canada, those scoters go for $1500 used.

The girl said it ran good until November
when it died, now she is moving and can't afford to get it fixed
so it's mine for $100
even if it's totally dead i'm sure i could make my money back parting it out
but i will be trying to fix it for sure first !!

You can use a newer ecu. And find it used for less than 100. check on totalruckus

I was going to recommend TR also, the ECM is there for ignition only and not related to the carb sensor. Make sure you dont get a met 2 ecm or you will be heavily restricted. A ruckus one wont work also. Have you tried resetting the ecm?

Turn the ignition off
connect jumper wire from blue wire (with yellow tracer and white 2 pin connector) to positive battery terminal. 2 pin is located below the fuse box
turn ignition on
headlight will come on
disconnect jumper
headlight will go off for approx. 1 second.
If light comes back on, ECU is reset

ok, finally got to pick it up yesterday
it's in really good shape. A little sun bleached but nothing major broken body wise, that i can see
the computer is still in the scoot, but the battery is not
so before i can even try to reset the ECM or do any testing, i'll need to figure that out
for now, can i use the battery from my Aero80 ?

i'll post some pictures and ask more questions in a few hours

Very likely enough amperage there to make it work, I'd head over to a parts website and see what it takes for a battery and that should give you an idea of what amperage the thing needs.

well that didn't work
the Jazz needs
6 Ah
and 90 cca

my Aero only does
4 Ah
and 55 cca

I tried it anyway, but my aero battery is so bad it barely works on the aero, so not a thing from it on the jazz
topped up the wateer at least anyway

what ill effects would there be from using a car battery ?
i know they are about 10x what the scooter battery is, but the voltage is the same
and of course amperage is more important than voltage
but what do you think ?
just as a test ? or should i just look into getting another, correct battery ?
which i will need in the end anyway

Should be no problem to jump from the car. As long as a battery is the correct voltage everything is fine
