aero 80 belt replacement

Post by brewer.410 »

ok so i have a 1983 honda aero 80 with 6,100 original miles. before i got it was sitting for two years, so of couse i did the basic and got it running again like it was new. now when i had it work on previously the mechenic told me it needed a new belt. that was as far as we got. now i belive i can do it myself, but from reading the offical shop manual from honda and i cant find in it of how to install the new belt. is there a special trick to do it.

A trick ?
in what way ?
You have to pull apart the whole side of the bike to get the cover off
whole engine side of the bike, plastic covers, AND metal frame that holds the foot rest
black belt cover comes off easily (8mm bolts)
take off one pully, remove belt, reassemble
I have done it a few times already trying to fit on a slightly different belt and replacing rollers
not much luck with the belt, they are either to wide, or too short
go OEM if you can get one, or if you find an off brand that fits, let me know !

i have an 83 as well, but am more inclinded to think it has 15,000K, not 5,000K :)
yours is probably more like 16,000 Miles

Good Luck !
1983 NH80
OKO 24mm Carb
ratty and beat up, but gets me there :)

Greetings:

Glad you found a belt. MotorMike and The Bear might have sources for an actual New one.
The belt doesn't just slip on over the pulleys. You have to remove at least one to install.

Good time to clean the grease out of the variator while you have it off and check the rollers for flatspots which is very very likley.

Greetings:

The SA Service manual walks you through the proces. 80 should be similar. Install belt before bolting up Vario.
