Honda spree starters

Post by fairlead »

Hello all. I perused a bit, but can't find any useful info on where to get replacement starter motors. It looks like their scarce on ebay. I have two weak burnt up ones, does anyone have a good source for a shop that can redo these? I took one apart and cleaned it and such, but it did no good.

found this posted somewhere on this board
the 84-85 have the 10 spline starter and the 86-87 had the 11 spline starter. What spline starters are you looking for?

how does $90.00 shipped sound

If your starters are turning slow because the armature coils have a short, they may be able to be rewound by an auto electric shop. Yet a re-wind is likely pricey. Post in Wanted/For Sale, there's often someone here with a starter.

Correct - there are 10t and 11t pinions depending upon year (IRC 84/85 is 10t). An improper combination has caused binding and slow cranking issues.

Mousewheels is sooooooo correct...there WILL be binding if you have the wrong combination of starter and bendix. You can use either 10 spline or 11 spline starters on any year Spree, as long as you have the right bendix to go with it. 1984/85- 10 spline starter with 65 tooth bendix and 1986/87- 11 spline starter with 63 tooth bendix.

I've wondered about the bendix part, and you have the answer!
