I dont know your knowledge on spree's.. But you have to hold the brake while you hit the starter button. Yes, also make sure the new battery is charged up.

Check the 7A fuse on the back RHS of the ped for breakage or corrosion. The fuse will get corroded and/or blow. Clean this.

Are you getting any noise at all (clicking, whirring, etc)?

Did you clean out the oil tank too?

yes oil tank was cleaned...everythings in order as far as the engine and fuel systems

i can rebuild and modify almost anything ....but electric im not to savy

no noise at all..its like theres not even a battery in it...no signs of electric except me and my volt meter....ive got good ground and am getting power thru 10 a fuse on side of battery case 16 + volts

should i at least have a horn when you turn key to on?

is there a simple test to check ignition switch...aka hot wire?

The rear taillight will come on with ignition on.

You will need to download the factory service manual (posted on this site) and work backwards from the starter to the battery.

16V is too high, you should have around 12-14V at the battery...?

Maybe the ignition got disconnected at the connector on the harness?

when I first got my #1 spree I had the same thing -trace your wire coming from + side of battery after pulling side cover -there is a 7 amp fuse about 4 inches from battery-my holder was corroded and I just replaced it for $2.50 -she started right up.Your hint is no power to taillight.

16 volts seems a tad high, but it probably will be ok, let it drain just a little

It's a battery, not a balloon. If it's over 13.8V he's either measuring it wrong or there's something wrong with the battery internally.

I just got an 87 given to me that had been sitting since 88', I put some power to it and got the same thing...NOTHING! after letting it sit(forgot to turn off the key and the sticky brake lever stayed pulled) I heard a click and all the sudden the blinkers started flashing, brake light lit up etc, been fine since

It acted like it "primed " the electrical system which was weird, other than that ..the only other thing I did was pull the fuse, it looked ok so I put it back in

Dunno * the deal was but thats what happened, Im a dirt bike/quad guy and build and race my own motors...but this seemed strange

Might sound dumb but try leaving it sitting w/ the key on etc and mess w/ the lock out switch, I shouldnt even have posted this but thats how it worked for me haha

good luck w/ it

Those fuses get corroded and either blow or keep the entire electrical system from working. A good cleaning of the connector is often in order, and quick to do.
