Greetings:

Bad bearings, or a catty-wompus magnet flywheel rubbing on something on the other side? Both would cause a catch when crank is spun. Maybe case-splitting won't be necessary. Hope so...

I pulled the flywheel and the belt and turned it over with half of the drive pully pulled out a bit so it wasn't dragging on anything. I thoroughly checked the flywheel and stator for drag marks before pulling it and no evidence of any thing out of line there. I'm going to swap the other spree motor in and swap the big bore and carb over. All I'll need is a piston clip and possibly make a new base gasket. That or run the stock motor is the immediate plan. Then I can order all the parts needed to put new bearings in over the summer

Im not sure what the debris is the reeds arent metal. Unless its one of the little springs that goes against them in the intake I'll go out and check the reeds. The bore might me salvageable with a hone and a new 48mm piston but the bearing are likely done and they are tight in one spot.

Yup it was the spring that sits against the reeds. It broke off and went right in the port on top of the piston. That explains the noise I heard before it croaked. Kind of like a jingle was the noise. It was the spring going in on top of the piston and getting crunched between the piston and head. I feel better knowing the issue wasn't something I did wrong. It was a random isolated failure of a part. I will sleep better knowing what went wrong.
