Just bought my first scooter ever! Need some help :)

Post by TheApe »

http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Honda/ ... ero50.html

It is named:

HONDA Aero
HONDA Tact
HONDA Melody Mine says that on the plastic covers?! But it seems like it's wrong..
HONDA Vision

If i'm not totally wrong, it is in which part of the world it was released?

I think it is an 83 or an 84. I will know for sure this evening because my neighbour works at Honda Mc and he will help me get it going :)

He asked me to check around if i could find any spare parts catalogue, is there anyone out there?
I did find the manual @ 179 pages that i have printed out, but it says nothing about spare parts.
The kick is stuck and i can't find any battery?! As i have read there is booth kickstart and electric?

I have also found one person http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=19538 here on the forum which sell spare parts but does not ship to Sweden. Anyone know any european dealer?

I got the scooter for $220. It's like new! Only 4567 miles! :)

Sorry if my grammar sux. Hope you guys [and girls] will understand anyways!

Thank you! I love her too, even though she isn't running just yet :)

The only modification i will do is to put on a cat-box at the rear luggage carrier so my cats can ride with me

:bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl: .......I'm sorry to be so amused at your idea of modifications.
I will refrain from the American tendency to create puns by using feline referrences.
I believe the Melody is more akin to the Spree, not the Aero, but I'm unschooled regarding the particulars... :hi:

I hear you!

Now, after a few bolts and beers, I have some new information about this beauty.

The correct model name is NT50 G. According to my friend G stands for year 86'. And yes. After a good look it seems like a Spree more than an Aero :) BUT it says Honda Melody on the plastic covers? And Melody is one of the many names of the Aero? :?

The identification number are AF 06 - 611 4569 . What does that tell me/you?

The kick starter was severely abused (on the inside) and a lot of bolts all over the scooter was replaced by standard screws HAHA!

The ignition lock was replaced with a kill switch. And so on..

I'm gonna upload some photos tomorrow for you to see.

Have a good night everyone!

Your friend should be able to get it running with no new parts if it's complete. Most (+80%) of the dead scooters I get can be made to run right with no parts needed.

Battery is a generic item and available. The kickstart is probably just gummed up; remove, clean, grease, re-assemble.

i.e. its a Spree motor/tranny and its going to be slower than you want and you cant do much about it. If you look at the belt area/pulleys(inside) you can tell for sure.

Dio motor swap fixes this and PP7 is a big fan:) Lots of resources are here re: the swap and stock bikes, keep reading:)

I don't need this particular scooter to go fast. I just need it to run and take me forward :D

I'm about to do the "Getting a Dead Scooter Back on the Road"-list but right now i got the flu and are in very bad shape

I have so far drilled another hole in the plate where the gas is going down to the cylinder [There was only one but it looks like it's made for 2, will show you in a picture later when i'm not sick anymore], I'm about to pull the plug that's in the carburetor, in swedish we call it strangulation, i don't know the english word for it :D and the last thing is the nozzle in the carburetor, my friend says that i need a wider one to match the other things i have modified.

Any comments on this? :)

Not familiar with the bikes, and of course only in English terms.

Sounds like the bike was restricted (as you say, strangulated) with something in the carb that restricted airflow. If you've removed such a device you *may* need to increase the size of the main jet... or not. I'd run it with stock jet first and see how it does; if the motor bogs (more thottle does not make it pick up speed) then you'll need to increase the size of the main jet. Your mechanic friend should be able to assess that. If you do increase the size it should only move by 5 - 10 points. Somewhere between a #68 to #78 should work on that size engine / carb... let us know the stock jet number for curiosity's sake when you pull it.

Not sure what plate you drilled out. Post a picture.
