Dies after hitting bumps

Well guys, I'm not really sure if I can drill/grind the bulge out. I was looking today and it looks like I'd hit the brass tube that the bystarter's needle goes into. Does anyone have any other ideas on fixing this?

Otherwise I'll have to start looking for an oem replacement.

The bystarter tube can be pressed out from behind (the carb bowl side).

How do I get the tiny c-clip out to be able to push the tube out?

Also how do I tell if I have a nb50, nq50, etc.? or are they all the same?

Your carb is an NQ50 type, the bystarter is on the other side for an NB50.

Opps, It's an E-clip. It's sittting right above the beveled lip on the top of the brass tube.

I cant give a full report on the bystarter because the scoots are put up for the winter now but I did buy one of these and it seemed to work well, I have not had a chance to test a true, hands off, cold startup and there is some shimming required to get the retention half-moon to hold it down. You have to remove the cover too.

I dont ever remember seeing an e-clip down there and I dont see one in your pic???

I'd just take a small round file or dremel and take the bump out from the inside, patch any holes created from the outside. Try not to tear anything else up and clean very well afterwards.

Clem, thanks for the advice. I have access to a nice drill press so I was going to go that route, but only if I got the brass emulsion tube out. To get the brass tube out I gave it a few taps with the back end of my screwdriver and it popped out.

I don't know what the thing in the bottom of the tube is, or what it is for.

I looked through more than a half dozen carbs w/o finding a clip and don't recall any clips on dozens of other carbs.

There is a detail on the casting looking like your posting.

Pats fiche was reviewed, there is no replacement part installed into the bottom of the bystarter recess.
Also, made a comparison between your posted photo vs a pic of the same angle of a carb in the mouse garage. Our carb bodies appear the same.

Question: Was the black part you posted an actual component within your carb?

I guess I just haven't been able to get as clear of a look as you got in your pictures mouse. To me it looked like a clip or something but I guess it is just the casting that I'm seeing. thanks for the higher quality pictures mouse!

As far as the other picture you compared to mine, on your carb by chance is there a mark from a bolt like the bottom pic in my post from the 19th? On my carb I figure that the wall was thin enough for the casting to be pushed in causing that bubble. Mine definitely has a mark from too long of a bolt, and that's what I think cause mine to do that.

You are correct in diagnosis and that you see a carb close to yours. The bystatrter air valve posted is definitely tagged by an improper bolt. Thanks for pics of issues you found, your thread will be helpful for future members

Thanks mouse. Now I just have to patch the back with jb weld and figure out how to drill or dermal it out.

Well I finally figured this out. It was the dent in the choke bowl causing my issue. I had to replace the carb with a used one. Now she runs perfect!!!

Thanks for the help you guys. Hopefully this will help people in the future.
