85 spree project

:newb:
I've got an 85 spree project to rebuild. I'm having electrical problems. I've changed the ignition switch [ old one had no keys and was clogged]. I'm getting power to and out of the switch but no power to the starter switch, blinker, or head light. The tail light, horn and brake light work. I've traced all the wiring and it is all there and seems t be in good condition, [followed the wiring diagram]. I'm wondering of there could be a problem in the CDI or some other component that is causing this issue.

Also I need an intake airbox lid. I've tried ebay and several online parts vendors with no luck, Anyone have one they would like to sell ?

Also check the starter relay. Also, the brake levers have switch on them that will keep the bike from starting unless the brakes are activated.

FUSE IS GOOD, DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE BRAKE LEVER SAFETY FEATURE I'LL CHECK THAT. BUT NO POWER TO LIGHTS EXC.[ STARTER RELAY IS GOOD ALSO ]

HeadLight won't work unless the engine is running. It operates directly off the stator.

OK got it running with starter fluid only, just to test it. Went to car wah with it to finish cleaning all the gunk off of it. Brought it back home. No fire. What could I have gotten wet that would cause it not to fire? The motor is very clean now but not much good if not gona run.

NEVER use starter fluid on a 2 stroke .It washes the oil off the cylinder and rings causeing metal on metal .This can kill tye compression.

Glad you mentioned compression. What is the range for the stock spree. I'm currently at 118

118 sounds ok but dont use starter fluid.mix up some premix and use that instead .

Just * you indicate no air box lid. Sprees do not run well if at all without a sealed airbox.

A spree may idle with out an air box lid but won't go anywhere, it will bog and die with any throttle
