some problems around the carb

Post by micbergsma »

here's video so it will tell you everything... after I filmed, I found out the other rubber plug on back side of carb is cracked open, now I know why it won't run right because of that...

i think these are the replacement rubber connections for that manifold.

for your other rubber cap, yes, replace it. with something that don't have leaks.

yes the belt will move freely until the roller weights in the variator push on the ramp plate with an increase in rpm.

replace the carb mounting rubber and might as well replace cracked caps while your at it.

replace the plug just cause there not that expensive and rules that out as a problem.

idling problem could be a lean condition caused by the loose, faulty carb mounting rubber.

oh yea, and your belts if its a stock oem one, has a service limit specification. the width if its under 14.5mm if thats a honda elite sa50 94+ is the service limit. its still good to use even though i find them, wearing out under 15mm, and not running as good, then. for me, 15mm when it gets under that, doesnt perform as good.

Greetings:

Sorry Dun Rite, but I emphatically disagree. A usable belt does NOT slide freely, ever. If it does, the belt is way too narrow, too long, or the pulley boss is too long - or the outer pulley isn't fully seated. Fix that last problem without delay, or your crankshaft is cooked if not already.

Old snowmobiles used the belt itself as the "clutch", so the belt had to slip for the engine to idle. The Honda design moves that function to the drum with proper durable friction pads. The belt shouldn't slip at all; it is tightly gripped by the spring tension squeezing the rear pulleys together. This design makes the belt last much longer. When it eventually does wear out and begin slipping, the rate of wear accelerates quickly. Using the variator as a clutch puts side-load stress on it for which it is not designed.

See why yours is slipping. Soon.

One more good tip, remove those nipples on the manifold and use Honda bond or bond tape for gas appliances on the threads of the nipples.

It would appear you're running a boss that is too long, I only say that because the amount of thread left on the crank with the nut on it.
The rubber for the ct manifold can be replaced with a radiator hose for the time being until you can get a new one from treats. Those rubber hoses for the ct are junk in my opinion. I've ran turbo pipe rubber for near 4 yeArs on one of my bikes with no issue. You can buy it at most napa stores.

Currently coupling pipe, basically radiator hose resistant to all solvents.

Radiator hose is NOT resistant to solvents.

Fuel hose is. Try getting the hose that connects the filler pipe to the fuel tank. That formula will last MUCH longer.

Good advice, two-five. Do AutoParts carry that in different diameters? Links?

Good luck finding fuel hose that size, solvent resistant hose is what I prefer. If you really want right you need a hose made with sae standard j30r9. There's tons of fuel line choices and its best to know which can be right for your app. Any standard fuel hose is not a standard anymore. Fuel additives, oxygenated, "clean" fuel, and even aviation fuel requires special linings.
Turbo piping silicone hoses are generally impervious to any type of heat, solvent, or flexing.
