New aftermarket starter option

Post by andy10889 »

Hey guys, my 84 model spree needed a starter. I felt like there had to be a better option than paying 85 dollars for a used oem 10t. Alittle ebay looking found me a Chinese 110cc starter with the same 10t sprocket and center ring diameter. This starter is larger than the oem but seems to have a lot more power. To install it required removing some material from the flywheel side of the engine case and drilling one hole and building one mount for the holes. Ill get some install pictures soon. But I just wanted to let everyone know I was able to get it installed and starting great for just 18 dollars shipped.

Heres a link to the ebay auction I got it from.

Greetings:

Hmmm, I wonder how come it doesn't spin the engine backwards for the Spree? Do GY-6 engines spin clockwise like the Spree?
Anyway, glad you got a good deal on a more-powerful unit. Thanks for sharing.

No you are correct it does spin reverse. All you have to do is undo the two screws on the back and flip the magnets 180. Been working fine for a few days now.
