Post engine build break in procedures
So I just rebuilt my 2000 Dio with just a reg bore kit. I did some heat cycles from which I read on the net. I am mixing a 50:1 ratio along with my oil pump working. How many Kms should I do before I start doing WOT? I figure about two tankfuls...thoughts?

Its not too hilly, but when there is a hill, I don't over do it.
Should I keep mixing oil to my gas until its broken in or is the one tankful good enough?

Re: Post engine build break in procedures
the oil pump can only supply enough oil for 50cc so if you have gone larger in ccs then you will always need to add oil to the gas.You could also remove the oil pump buy a pump plug and runn full premix at 32:1 with a good full synthetic oil.

Re: Post engine build break in procedures
It's still stock size, 50cc. I think I will run one more tankful of mix gas just to be safe. Looks like one tankful will equate to about 200km, so with two, I'll achieve the 400km break-in.
Even though I just got this scoot going, I'm itching to install a bbk! lol

I did notice that Scooter Swap has a "Dio Stage 1 power kit" which will bring up the speed, but I was wonder if it will still haul my big butt up our small hills around here.

Re: Post engine build break in procedures
Greetings:
I recommend you drain that tank and refill it with pure gasoline. Adding more oil than Honda-san ordains does nothing good for your engine, and can cause harm in a couple of ways.
1. The Fuel mixture of combustible gasoline and non-combustible oil means that the air-Fuel mixture has less Fuel available. With stock jetting, the mist your engine inhales is thus LEANER, resulting in higher combustion chamber temperatures, increasing the chance of heat-related failure despite the increased amount of oil sloshing around your crankcase.
2. Most oils leave soot residue as it cooks inside a two-stroke. The extra oil you're adding - which is basically DOUBLE what is needed over the pump output - gathers thickness over a short time. The space it occupies on your cylinder head isn't available for the compressed fuel/air mist, so you effective compression pressure increases. This also increases the heat of combustion. In combination with the lean mix in 1 (above) you set yourself up for a very hot top end as time goes by.
3. Cost of fuel increases.
Honda-san himself fills the oil tank, primes the pump, and sells the product to folks who wouldn't think to add oil to the fuel. The engines run and last a long time delivered as such. If you're bound to the idea the more oil is "better", at least increase the size of the main jet a tick or two as long as you run the 50:1 mix.

Re: Post engine build break in procedures
Ok Wheelman-111, shall do.
I have only rebuild a scooter once, this one, but have rebuilt many snowmobile 2 strokes and its always regarded to add extra oil to the gas for the first tank even with the oil pump working. I just thought that all 2 strokes were the same. I guess not; these scoots are a different breed especially with the heat cycles. Never did or do this for snowmobiles.

Re: Post engine build break in procedures
Well the straight gas didn't help out very well. I had at least 4 soft seizes on my 18km run, though it is probably just the cheap pos 50cc kit that I bought. I'm ready to but something with more quality as this isn't working out!
That was the reason that I used mixed gas before as I would have a few soft seizes and as soon as I did, the soft seizes was down to just one(this only being after a long run at 1/2 throttle).
So if anyone has any ideas for a good quality 50cc kit, please let me know. The only reason that I wouldn't go with a bbk is cause of all of the variables which I would have to experiment with.(IE: carb, exhaust, jetting, variator, clutch)

Stock airfilter=yup! Everything is stock. I even checked to see that I burnt oil as I topped it right up before I left and it had gone down some. I'm thinking that this el cheapo 50cc kit was just that; cheap!swimmingfree wrote:are you running the stock air flter ?????

I think I want to go back to the stock Honda cylinder, but I don't have one. Anyone have one to sell that won't need a rebore??
