Front & Rear shoes - Different Size, specs, what will work?

Post by johnny248 »

I was looking around at EBC and DP Brakes shoes for an SA50.

I am a little confused by what I am seeing.

Depending where I look, I am coming up with EBC numbers of

303 / 303G (G is grooved) 110m x 25mm
Or
333 / 333G 95mm x 20mm

Same front and rear.

The DP Brakes catalog shows for a '94 SA50

Front 9100 - 110mm x 25mm
Rear 9126 - 95mm x 20mm

The Metro shows
9126 - 95mm x 20mm front and rear

I emailed DP and they said Honda used to spec the two different size shoes for the SA50, but superceeded them to the same smaller 95mm x 20mm shoe but DP still offers the two sizes.

I measured my stock shoes and they seem to both be 20mm wide. I dont know if other years used the 25mm shoe or not?

Can anyone say if the larger 110x25 shoe will actually work on the front ? I would be interested in using the larger shoe in front. To me, a larger, wider shoe means more friction surface area = less heat = better braking?

Can anyone comment on the larger shoes fitting the front?

Also, it looks like EBC and Vesrah both offer grooved versions. I guess these are designed to help clear out dirt, dust, and water and are good for offroad use. Are there any benefits to using the grooved shoes on a street scooter?
