Electrical problems (on Spree)

Post by spreeman98 »

Okay, so i was riding my spree when i heard what sounded like somthing breaking or falling inside the spree. Now my headlight only dimly lights up when im going down the road or rev it. I checked the connections inside the console and they were all fine. I checked the regulator and switched out a different battery and nothing changed. I know the battery isnt bad because it'll crank forever and not di3. So what could the problem be? Amd if its the alternator, where would i get a new one? Please help.

The battery has nothing to do with the headlamp. The battery is on a DC circuit which powers your brake lights, turn signals, etc. The headlamp runs off of AC power from the stator generated when the engine is running that goes through the regulator.

Check for AC 12-14V AC at the wires for the headlamp. If you don't see that at the headlamp wires, then:

With the engine off, key on
Check the regulator. I *believe* you should see something like

Measure 12V DC between RED and GREEN
Measure charging coil resistance between WHITE and GREEN. Should be .3-.9 Ohm
Measure lighting coil resistance between YELLOW and GREEN. Should be .2-.8 Ohm
Measure lighting resistor resistance between the resistor wire and ground. Should be about 5ohms

If any of those are way off, you more than likely need to replace the regulator.

If they check good, move on the the stator.

With the engine off, disconnect the stator connector.

Measure resistance between the WHITE and GREEN wire. Should be .2 - 1.0 Ohm
Measure resistance between YELLOW and GREEN. Should be .1-.8 Ohm.

If either is off, you have a problem with the stator and most likely needs replacement.

Measure resistance between
