Ch80 hard turning over.

Post by Kevinstonge »

I'm reluctant to put this post up, as I havnt really fully diagnosed the issue, but I'm stuck at work all day so I'm looking for ideas. This is a friends bike who claimed he couldn't get it to start.

Issue: hard turning over ( exactly like an almost dead battery). Will turn over eventually, but it struggles the get through each cycle.

-Changing the battery out for my fresh one did not help.
-Loosened the two case cover bolts near the starter in case it was putting stress on the starter and did not help
-pulled the spark plug to see if it turns over faster and it indeed does. Sudden increase in compression???? No tester gauge at the moment.

I havnt checked the voltage to the starter yet but I plan to. I've run into this issue on 2t's when the case fills up with oil from a bad check valve, but that can't be the case here.

Any ideas or recommendations for diagnosis will be greatly appreciated. I'm really hoping the head/valve assembly is ok as I don't have time to tear it down.

Thanks!!!

Drain the oil...check to see if gas has drained down into the crankcase.
Could be a hydro-lock situation...

Greetings:

I'd bet on a leaky valve seal for sudden increase in compression.

The oil dip stick read at the bottom most notch. When turning over the engine with the plug out, no fluid expelled from the hole whatsoever. But this was my original thought as well.

Allowing oil to get past the seal, into the combustion chamber?
