trying to start my SA50P
when I kick it over it kicks good a few times then wants to bind up...
just asking if there is something obvious that others have experienced, I'm thinking I'll pull the belt cover later today..
Want to get it fired up as I think the banana peel is going to get parted out...

Take the spark plug out.

I know the difference between compression and binding...
it doesn't feel like that type of issue,

Re: trying to start my SA50P
Okay...maybe the kick-start components have some wear and the binding is there.
I was suggesting that the cylinder was getting hydro-locked.
That's why I said remove plug...

I apologize Motormike, i was thinking it felt more mechanical...
but i pulled the plug first...
oil injection bled down and lets just say that there isn't any rust issues in the motor our directly in line with the spark plug hole!
Kicks over beautifully and the starter spins it over good too.... thats how I got oil everywhere!
I was wrong! sorry for being so abrupt...

Re: trying to start my SA50P
So as I sometimes do, have bought this thing, started acquiring parts, but am thinking I'll do something else... I have my SB50P project for this winter and for my pit ripper,
So I am thinking I'll part this out, and re-sell all the parts I just bought for it...
want to fire the motor on the banana peel first... hope the plug isn't oil fouled... going to just put some pre-mix in the tank and see if I can get her running...
So I may just have a stock af16e for sale soon... and a complete scooter to part out.

Re: trying to start my SA50P
Bikes sitting for long periods tend to allow the 2T oil to seep past those pesky O-rings and fill the cylinder, case, muffler...so your situation may still have some hidden surprises.TenRacing wrote:I apologize Motormike, i was thinking it felt more mechanical...

Oh yeah the gas in the tank is ripe! so I may have some work to do just to get it fired up...motormike wrote:Bikes sitting for long periods tend to allow the 2T oil to seep past those pesky O-rings and fill the cylinder, case, muffler...so your situation may still have some hidden surprises.TenRacing wrote:I apologize Motormike, i was thinking it felt more mechanical...

the motor feels good and I'm thinking I should just part it out... probably get more money for the engine assembly if I can document it running...

Re: trying to start my SA50P
Here is good tip for you. Remove plug and muffler. Tip the scooter upside down and flush all the oil out. Place a towel under the cylinder to catch the oil. If you don't do this your going to push the oil into the muffler.

Yea that's a good idea Taz.
The oil in exhaust will take a while to "burn off"- a couple miles of riding at wot - at the least.
Since the gas is bad, you might as well pull the tank out and flush as well. Maybe even soak it good. If you have some carburetor dip solution just pull the carb apart and soak it for a couple days.
You should change the fuel lines as well and anything else that got gunky.
If you're just going to test fire it for a few minutes, I wouldn't worry about the oil injection, run it on pre-mix 36:1 as you have plenty oil already in the case.

Re: trying to start my SA50P
And as long as you have the muffler off, it wouldn't hurt to throw it in a fire (I use an outdoor wood boiler) for a while to get rid of any oil that got into it. Works great!tazland001 wrote:Here is good tip for you. Remove plug and muffler. Tip the scooter upside down and flush all the oil out. Place a towel under the cylinder to catch the oil.
