Condensation on intake manifold?

Post by johnny248 »

Has anyone seen condensation droplets on the intake manifold after riding? I assumed this was normal from cold air and fuel rushing through it and causing conde sarion on the outside, but then I asked a couple of people and they said they haven't noticed it. Is this normal or not? Could there be a great problem which would cause this?

Happened to me the other day, and all the time w airtools outside. It's just the air rushing through there causing it to collect. When I was young I had a job mounting tires on cars and the air impact gun would freeze to my hand in winter. I don't think it's bad, just watch out for lean conditions.

The venturi effect that sucks petrol up from bowl works on pressure differences and can drop the ambient air temp by 30-40F.
Also as said below the cool air rushing through the manifold.
This results in a cooling of the carb body and manifold. In extreme circustances you can get ice forming in your carbs.

Greetings:

Piston-prop airplanes have electric coil carb heaters for this reason; otherwise carbs ice up at altitude. Honda's fan-forced cooling system exhausts right at the carb for the same reason. Humid conditions exacerbate the condensation.
