Dio sr exterior restoration?

Post by Hksdio »

Hi guys,

Installed my repainted wheels and new kn planning forks.

As for the colored plastics, im not happy at all with how faded they are. Has anyone ever repainted their dio or had a shop do it? The bit that concerns me is the floorboard as it isnt exactly smooth plastic.

Id appreciate some advice or which avenue i should take as i have a bit lined up for this little dio and need it looking great.

Thank you.

Greetings:

The wheels look great, anyway...
Honda's Polyethylene does start to look dingy with sun exposure. Consider a heat gun to try to restore uniform color. PE is tricky to get paint to stick.

Try soft scrub and a scotchbrite pad. then wipe down with wipe new. Works on plastics on my seadoo's and makes them look new

Haha yeah, waiting on new exhaust from webike. The bike wont be ridden for a month or so as im rebuilding it. I should start a build thread soon. Stretch kit and tazland bbk carbs and gears is the basics of the build.

Could you elaborate on the soft scrub and product?

Soft Scrub is a bathroom cleanser
Scotchbrite pads are abrasive scrubbing pads made by 3M company in varying degrees of coarseness.

Thank you, its just in australia we dont have some products.

I am going to give wipe new a shot. It seems to do what it promises.

Extra virgin olive oil for the plastcs. It's a natural solvent, a somewhat light oil and non petroleum based. Evoo and a good rag w elbow grease works for old dirty plastics. If there already clean, just a heat gun and some sort of plastic renewing product should work. DON'T PAINT EM!! it's hard to get it right, and always seems to peel off later. Don't paint it. but if you do, use a product called SEM plastic "dye" or "coating". It's like spray paint but special meant for plastic stuff. We use it in the auto accessories industry and it's considered the "best" for interiors because of its durability, even seen it used on the seats of cars.
I prefer the Genco brand of olive oil.

Genco was the legit business of the Genovese family so if if it wasn't good you slept with the fishes.Interesting tip can't wait to try it it.The heat gun works but boy you have to be steady and it takes a long time to get a good work product.

I was hoping someone caught that! Genco is also the name of the olive oil importing business that Vito corleone started in "the godfather". In truth, any evoo should work (in theory).
