Heat seize ?

Post by given123 »

Ran my bike up to 412 in temp then all of a sudden bike started to acclerate on its own. I used the kill switch turned the bike off flipped the switch back on and the bike started moving on its own again. After letting it cool for about 10 minutes tried to start the bike and bike started and ran normal. What's was the problem? Heat seize ? Over heated ?

If its accelerating it sounds like your slide is open or jammed open. Is your throttle stuck? If you meant deceleration, it probably was a seize.

The very nature a definition of the word "seize" indicates a complete lack of movement.
If your moto suddenly increased in speed without throttle being applied,
that would be the opposite of seize. I can't verify that the extreme temp you
saw was the reason for the run-away engine rpm, but like Mr. Jumps said,
the throttle slide in the carb would have seemed to gotten hung up in an open position.

Motors do funny things when over heated. Not sure if I've had one take off though. I've had the motor pull really great right before seizure its a unique experience for sure. I can feel that a motor is going lean and or about to seize. I'd be looking at the intake side of the carb and checking the slide for proper operation and no foreign material. I would be tempted to look at the cylinder as well.

It also could be a air leak, you could be experiencing a leak that occurs after warm-up.

I also came up with another idea, it could be the petcock having vacume issues, is fuel spitting back out your carb? Your pet * could be having issues with a tiny pebble shaking around in it causeing fuel to "spike" and throw your rpm down and it close off again and cause the system to lean out and throw the rps really up.

Edit: Hahaha its gonna sensor out * lawl * hehe * * *

Was troubleshooting this same problem on my Nifty 50 this afternoon, rpm would creep up on its own and take ages to die down again, would randomly stop and not restart unless I let it sit for 10 - 15mins.

Turns out the bung I used to blank off the now unused oil feed on the intake block had come off so a pretty major air leak between the carb and the reeds. Blocked it off and it came right instantly ;)
