Polini Clutch Questions - 3G type

So I have this clutch installed and it's ingaging at about 5800rpm. I would like it to engage at about 6500rpm. The springs that came with it are not the regular blue, white as listed on the website PDF, but rather the optional ones you can buy as a package (255.085). This package includes three springs:green(4000-5500), yellow (5500-6500) & blue (6500-7500), in which I have the yellow installed at max adjustment.
My question is that when I measured them using my vernial caliper, the size was not indicative of their rpm rating. The green was smallest and the yellow was largest. Should I go by their chart or go by my measurements? I would hate to go through all of the work to replace the yellow with the blue only to find out that I've dropped my rpm engagement. lol

On another note, would changing my variator weights to a lighter weight have any effect on this engagement? IE: the engine rpm will be higher but the clutch will still be spinning to engage at it's 5500-6500rpm.

blue is strongest I have them in my triplets and they are at about 7000 rpm... engages and you start moving asap!

Next question: I've always just used water pump pliers to take the clutch nut off, but I want to buy the correct socket after work today: what size socket will I need? I think I saw somewhere that it's 31mm...

Greetings:

I recall it being 34mm. I use my Giant adjustable wrench, as most sockets have a recessed hex contour that makes it hard to engage the nut.

Also may I add that the blue truplet springs make it hard to drive slow in traffic, so if your city driving yellow or greens may be better. But if your doing fast and wheelies then the blue is amazinf for your use.

Agree with wheelie-mon. I just use a big adjustable plyer after putting it in a vise, cushioned with a rag of course. Dont wanna bend the pulley. Also springs cam really depend on ur set-up. I had blues on my corsa/yasuni. The amount of rev was unnecessary. Lots of rpm unused. But wanted to keep wheelies, switched to yellows and and it now pulls off right after the band into a long fast wheelie. But the yasuni really slams into the band, then hold on! His pipe/bore might react differently. I have the blues on my corsa/arrow set-up and it actually pulls the wheelie up more mellow.

Right now, with the yellow springs, its a slow launch and I would like it to pull a bit faster from a start. I do weight 200lbs, so it has lots to pull.

Also, if u put the blues in by the time the clutch grabs your rpms have reached a point where the rollers will have the vari shifted into a higher gear. Imagine trying to pull off the line in 3rd.. So ur weights need to be 6gm or less and run a heavier contra also to hold the belt into a lower gear..

Hmmm, that is what I was wondering. Maybe I 'll try lighter rollers first.

I have an pg short on an 50mm with 21mm carb with the blue triplets and 6 gram rollers and it lagged from 0-8ish mph then stood that front wheel up at 1/3 throttle. Of course this is with 9:1 gears also and its on the spree. Scary s***

Yea rollers and contra are easy changes. I have that same 3g clutch and those springs are a pain to change!

So an update. I just change my rollers so far, in 3 stages: from 35.7 to 33.3 to 30. Bam! 30 was the sweet spot! Launches great, but I still have to do more testing, but the weather is kinda cold right now. MTF...

Yep. Haven't touched the clutch. When it warms up on Wednesday, I'll take it out for a longer run.
