Honda made the se50 for asian market and called it the DJ1 it had the variated af05 motor. The canadian market had the same se50 and it's called the Elite R. The U.S. version was made for 1 year and as mentioned by 1man8scoots, it was the Elite "S", the restricted versions were either the Elite, Elite 50, or Iowa elite.
Honda made a se50 version also for the asian market called the DJ1-RR and it had the "dio" af18 motor in it. It was a limited production model, so not very many still around. This is the best information I can give as I understand it. There may be more explanations in the details which I'm not aware of.

Greetings:

My '87 Japanese DJ-1 (No "R") was an SE50 for all practical purposes, with a few odd features. The intake manifold was AF05 at the case port, but it was more like the AF16 outboard of that connection. The engine was all AF05 otherwise, except the belt cover was a 2-piece - the rear part separate from the rest of the cover - like the AF16.

I know what you guys are talking about i should have been more specific the early year af18s had skinnier cranks so what im asking is does the aftermarket driveline/Cvt parts interchange? I understand dios are different than the af05e

I think you have one of the first generation dio's that I imported into Vegas. The first generation dio(AF18) has the skinny crankshaft. You can use any BBK, CT intake, and gears that fit a AF18,AF24,AF27,AF28, and AF30. If you want to use an aftermarket variator that fits a sa50/dio then you will have to use the stock boss. Its really no big deal.
I sold a s*** load of dio's in Vegas. If you find any Japan models with km on the speedo let me know and pm me please. Im looking for a yamaha mint. If you see one please let me know. I sold thousands upon thousands of Japan scooters in Vegas.

Thanks but I'm looking for the whole mint and nothin but the mint. lol Another thing that was awesome about the mint was those 8inch rims. Great acceleration and good top end. I am curious how much taller are the mint gears compared to the razz? Did you ever put them in a razz?
