Cracked case concern

Post by Ruckenstein »

I have some case concerns. There are 2 parts of the rear wheel area that have been cracked off this case...should I be super concerned about this? I didn't think this area held stress but I'm sure some of you can shed some expertise on this.

Hi Ruck. after zooming in the photo, looks like it has a stress crack by the motor bushing. Who knows how long that would last? And at what speed?

Greetings:

Yikes! Ahh, no problem... Nothing bad could happen if the wheel parted company from the case at speed, right?

hssffc wrote:I see nothing. Maybe where you see it. I see one black line about the size of a fingernail, that is in the curved parts still, nothing structural part. But I don't see nothing, but curves that shape it neat. Maybe knock the rest of it off witha hammer if you want to find out if its a structural crack, but i can see it going from one side of the curve to the other.
Hi. use your smart phone to zoom in on the photo. Right next to the motor bushing there's a hairline crack. who knows how strong it is? I wouldn't take a chance. It's just not safe.
I can't upload, the photo too large.

Personally, I wouldn't take any chance like this. If the case is cracked in any way, it's a problem. Safety is paramount. Even riding at 20 mph's you are in real danger.

30mph plus pothole or road level drop and your gonna fisnish that bearing out the case and you whole trans is gonna either lock or your tire and rod will slide right out your caae. Look up gy6 losses back wheel out shaft. It happens on those cases with the same crack almost. Its up to you though.

hssffc wrote:I don't know I don't see one. And I don't use a phone. I see the crosshatch pattern along the right side of the bushing there, in spots, like i see on mine. and one crosshatch looks to run along the corner, but if it was a crack it would be thicker and not just a scratch size. there is not one crack on the side I see. the top looks fine too, and the left side looks fine from what i can see. looks like those, casting or molding hatches that my case has all over it, near non-polished areas.

maybe tap it with a hammer, see if it cracks on through. If you know where it's at to smack it with, and don't hit it too hard to actually break it
hi, use a smart phone to zoom in.

Wow! Thanks for all the comments and info. As it turns out dude already shipped it to me so now I can look at it up close and personal. I'll provide better pictures after a thorough cleaning.
