AF05E and AF16E Interchangeability? Will AF05E fit in SA50E?

I have a 2001 SA50 Elite who's engine is shot. I also have a AF05E engine? I just want it to run. I am trying to figure out if the older engine will fit in the SA50E. Does anyone know how interchangeable these are or could anyone point me to a post that discusses this? I was unable to locate any.

The Af05e engine will fit the sa50 frame you might have to change motor mounts but doubt it also please specify which af05e engine you have they are three the spree elite e non variated af05e or the two bolt variated af05e on early areos then the 4bolt intake variated af05e
Also since your engine is shot how much do you want for it?

You should go to scooterswapshop.com if you to swap to an af16, he sells a custom mount for this. But I doubt your afo5 is shot. You probably need a new bore kit and/or carb, and you can buy both for the price of a stock af16 and have aftermarket stuff. Have you taken it apart and checked what's up? Also, even an af16 motor will need constant maintenance so if you just want "something that runs" you might be better off selling this complete as-is and buying something like a ruckus or zuma or metropolitan or vino, all those are very reliable and easy to maintain. These older hondas take some getting used too...

Sorry - I wasn't as clear as I needed to be. The af16 that is on the 2001 SA50 Elite is the engine that is shot. I have taken it apart. The crank is bent and other serious damage. The bike had been stolen and was ruined. I have a complete spare af05 engine sitting on the garage floor with a new carb but I do not know what scooter it is from. I'll have to look at it more closely to see what type of af05 I have. I just thought I'd see if anyone has done this type of backwards swap before I stumble ahead. I could get a replacement af16 but this is a marginal bike that I don't want to put a lot of time and money into. No bling. No huge mods. No 75 mph. No flames shooting from the tailpipe . It just has to get my son to school at 25-30 mph. Thanks for any help, advise or wisdom!

In that case, a custom mount is easy, or buy an sa50 mount for afo5, which should work. Those bikes came afo5 motors prior to 94

Dude! Swap in a Aero!! I love it, and it should fit just fine. Honda-san himself ffitted the Variated 05 engines in the SA frame from 1988 to 1993, when the 16 took its first U.S. bow. I have read that the engine mount bolt diameter changed in 1994, but if you can press in the correct-size bushing there shouldn't be any other issues. The older 05 variated design is only a little slower than the 16.
