Hello all, first post here so thanks in advance for any information.
After hooking up the speedometer components on my 1990 elite 80, when I ride, even at very low speeds the speedo needle maxes out and shoots all the way up past any numbers, and basically stays maxed out until I stop.
I recently put in a new speedo gear in the front tire assembly, the old one was broken. When the cable is unattached at the dash, I can see the inner cable spin when I spin the front tire, so the new gear seems to be working.
I'm thinking it must be a gear problem in the dash itself, everything else seems to be functioning as it should.
Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas? Should I just get a digital speedo and save myself the headache?
Thanks!

Re: Elite 80 speedometer problems
Did the new gear have the same number of teeth as the old one? The most logical cause I can think of would be that it is the wrong gear, and is spinning the cable too fast.
