1986 spree crankcase gasket thickness

Post by wwolvert »

I need to know the thickness of a 1986 nq50 crankcase gasket so I can get the proper sized gasket material to make a gasket.

Taz was selling gasket kits on eBay, don't know if he still is. Would make more sense just to buy one over trying to make one.

They are about 0.020". Auto parts are typically 0.030".

I ended up just going with the smallest stuff I could get from the auto parts store that was .030'' thick every thing seemed to go together very well. I figure I tiny bit loose is better than to tight.

Did this work for you? I haven't been able to find gaskets on eBay. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the links but didn't answer my question. Did the .030 gasket material work? I've been asking about the mini melody gaskets and no one can definitively tell me they will work. The first link is the gaskets I bought and a few of them are different from the 85. Plus one was already torn on delivery and I haven't heard back from the seller. Most importantly, if buying gasket material and making my own will work then why wait for them to come across oceans? So, did the .030 gasket material work?

The main impact to not having right thickness is jug base gasket. That said, another 0.010" isn't going to kill your engine. All the others... 0.030" works fine.

Getting 0.020" gasket material is a real trick; I've been unable to find it in DIY quantities anywhere.

... cereal boxes. Yes, I've used those too in a pinch.

This is getting ridiculous. I think I'm going to start producing gasket kits as well.
