Spree Rebuild kit

I just bought my uncle's 87 Spree which has been sitting for over 5 years. The motor was hydro locked with oil due to a leaky oil pump. It runs okay, but I know how he used to ride it and I'd just like to go through the engine and freshen it all up. I plan on buying a stage 3 kit from Taz, but I'd like to change out the crank bearings, rod bearing and crank seals. Does anyone sell this as a kit or do I have to order it all separately? Also where do I get the tool to separate the case?

Thanks
Nick

Greetings:

I've used a generic harmonic balancer and/or steering wheel puller from Harbor Freight You may have to fab up your own M6 bolts to get the right length, but basically the compression screw leans on the end of the crank and the web pulls the case off. Tusk makes a tool to pull the crank back into the cases once the bearings are tapped into them. It's not ideal like Honda's tool because it does crossload the outer bearing race, but the fit is loose enough not to cause damage. Honda's special tool, if you can even find one, is crazy-expensive.

Prime candidate for a motor swap! Ditch that Spree motor and never look back!

Greetings:

Listen not to the Ball of Meat. He knows not of which he speaks. A nice-running Spree can be a most enjoyable super-fine drive feeling, if you are content within its limits. I'm guessing the SuperBee is all a feller needs in terms of speeds if that's what you're after. Spree can be fine for mellower times. Plus there's great satisfaction in knowing every bolt on the engine from the cases out were torqued in there by You. Honda's Stock bearings are hard to beat. They should be available from Honda or aftermarket vendors like Bandit or Superstore. The challenges may be in procuring suitable gasketry. See Noisy's post in WTB/For Sale section.

Thanks a lot Wheelman!

PS... Where are you from? Your posts are written with such elegance that I picture you sitting on a scoot wearing a monocle and holding a cup of tea... lol

Hi spreesuperbee, once again mr. Wheelman gives great advice.
I personally never seen mr. Wheelman, but I picture him looking like Dusty Hill from ZZ TOP. Lol

Perhaps my post may have been a bit brash. I (currently)have two Sprees. One has an Elite motor and the other is bone stock....Honestly, I enjoy riding them both and switch off depending on the day. No matter which route you choose with your scoot project Im sure once its done perma-grin will ensue.

FYI: Sometimes the Meatball can get pretty spicy. Its not his fault.

Greetings:

Ah, so Meatball knows the mellow pleasures of the Spree. I was so surprised tea came out my nose and my monocle fell out and was lost in my grizzled beard. I retract my previous challenge and pay respect.

You could bbk, gears, carb then rebuild and find out you are onlg gonna hit 40mph on the spree or swap to a stock af16 and hit 40 stock. I think that is what meatball was going for. But nothing is wrong with a stock spree, or.bbk spree.
