I've tried different cdis all with same result. My lights work so I figured the rectifier worked also. I'll change it anyway after I figure out why my new ground isn't grounding.

I would start eliminating possibilities before you go buy parts. If you have a multimeter (cheap ones can be had for $10) you can probe around and start testing most of your electrical components. The manual has Ohm ranges for mostly every spot. I would go page by page and check everything for proper resistance. Its actually very simple. Just poke the two spots it says to and read the screen.

However, it doesn't have a test for the CDI. It just says if "X,Y and Z" are good, replace CDI. There very simple tests for your coil wire, resistor, charging system, etc....

First things first, replace that cooked wire! Never know, maybe it was just knocked loose from its clip and was touching the exhaust? This might cause a weak ground (intermittent open loop) and may effect your spark strength. Surprised your fuse hasn't popped. Double check that too! Make sure its only 7A (10A after 86').
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

So I had to cut back quite a bit to get decent wire.
Big One goes to the negative battery. One small goes to ground. And the other small one goes to negative battery. That's how it connected up but when I mock up some wires before I hardwire it for good I get zero spark now. :/
Fuse it good. Key is on. Kill switch is set to Run. Hair pulled.
