Re: 1987 Spree - Hard to turn over
I went out to remove the spark plug but I don't have a 13/16" deep well socket so this will have to wait until I can get one tomorrow. If the bike is in fact "hydrolocked", would I be able to turn the motor over a full revolution (with great force) with my socket wrench? I'm fearing a bent crank or connecting rod...

No, air will compress...oil will NOT.silver slp wrote: If the bike is in fact "hydrolocked", would I be able to turn the motor

DO NOT attempt turning with a wrench.

Pulled the spark plug and it was dripping with oil! I can now turn over the motor by hand! Just need to figure out how to get all the excess oil out...

Turkey baster with hose attached stuck down the spark plug hole.
Re: 1987 Spree - Hard to turn over
Drill a hole in the bottom of crankcase...use bubblegum to seal after draining
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

Alright, I drilled a hole and put gum on it but it's so oily it won't stick. How about duct tape?

Duct tape (AKA: Kentucky Chrome) will do just fine.silver slp wrote: How about duct tape?

OK, so you've discovered the WHAT...question now is the WHY. The case filled with oil because?.....
If the bike has been sitting, its likely that the oil pump is the culprit. The internal seals of the pump will be compromised over 30yrs and begin to allow seepage. Its typically very slow and a non-issue if your scoot is used regularly. Let it sit for a month and it begins to collect in the case. These seals are inside the oil pump and cannot be accessed without destroying the pump, so they are not serviceable. Best bet is to score a good used OEM pump and replace it....or better yet, ride your scoot everyday!

Definitely would consider running premix if I can find an oil pump plug. Anyone have one and have a write up on how to install it?

They don't make a sweet CNC oil plug for the Spree like the DIO boys have. You have two choices:
You can remove the oil pump, pull the drive shaft out of it(pulls out with your fingers), grind the gears down smooth so it's no longer spun by the crankshaft, reinstall toothless shaft into pump, reinstall pump, cap off inlet/outlet oil ports, DONE.
Or you can remove the pump and toss it, install the plug shown below in the picture, use the oil pump mounting bolt and a washer to hold the plug from being forced out by case pressures. Ive done this method and never had an issue.

or grind the teeth off and stick it back in with a lil silicone
