Spree won't start

Post by fedorn »

It makes noise but stops almost immediately. I made a video of it https://youtu.be/dHi4z059_4M
I made around 100 miles on it after I got it a few days ago, then it stopped running after some shaking on a bad road. I filled it with gas because the tank was almost empty, but it didn't help.
Should I just follow general instructions like checking spark and cleaning carb or this does not apply here? Could it just be bad fuel?

Considering the short term of running fine, then a no-start after 100 miles
leads me to believe the issue lies in the fuel system. Prime suspect is the screen which is attached to the intake tube of the petcock and found inside fuel tank. This screen comes out along with removal of the petcock.
You SHOULD check for fuel flow before removing petcock.
If none found, then remove and check screen.
If all seems to be in order with petcock, I would move to the carb checking content in the bowl and condition of the float needle, etc.

Thanks for your replies.
My neighbor looked at it and told me it could be the problem with the coil. I replaced it and it didn't help.
I also put new fuel in it, but that didn't help either.
Fuel goes fine out of the tube if I remove it from the carb and start scooter. Petcock and screen should be fine? Engine behaves similarly this way when there's no fuel at all.
At this moment I think the problem is with carb, but I also want to check the spark myself first.

Open the float bowl drain screw and check for flow when the motor cranks and or runs. I had a quick sec to check out the video the other day. Sounds like its simply running out of fuel. Could be something else but check there first. Pulling the vacuum line that goes from the intake tube to.the petcock and plugging one end with your finger and seeing if it holds a vacuum could be a good idea. Start there. Check the connections on the coil and.make sure the plugs are good and tight. Just to be sure.

I opened bowl drain screw. Some fuel is running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPGIfsVOh48
How do I check for vacuum? I detached intake tube from petcock and when I start the engine I feel that air is going out of it. Should it be the other way around?
Coil connections seem fine...

No, intake actually sucks air, not going out. Seems fine too.

Watched the videos.
Remove carburetor.
Clean all jets, emulsion tube, float needle and seat.
Verify all passages open with short bursts of carb cleaner spray.
Re-assemble and re-install.

take the vacuum line completely off and suck on one end while you plug the other. If it holds a vacuum the line is good. The old lines can rot from the inside out.

It holds a vacuum. Doesn't seem the issue.

I changed the spark and checked compression with cheap tester today (attached photo of it). Is it OK?
Now the engine actually runs pretty long sometimes with closed throttle. As soon as I touch the throttle it stops. Is this a symptom of a dirty carb? I plan to clean it soon.
