So I got a 85 spree for free that has been sitting out in the Desert for 10+ years I bought a coil and TCI unit from eBay it's the orange racing one for $25. After doing some electrical work I managed to get the engine to turn over brake light is on but I am not getting any spark at all. I have tried taking out the spark plug to the frame to see if I get spark but nothing happens any insight would be helpful thank you

You said "TCI"...do you mean "CDI" ?
One thing you didn't mention...kill switch.
If brake light is ON when engaging brake lever, then circuit should be complete for spark.
Another likely culprit is the spark plug CAP..can be bad.

Yes sorry I did mean cdi and I don't have the brakes hooked up so the brake light it on. The handle bars are on the ground. The brake switch does work when I hit the button. So the brake light needs to be off to get spark?

So I noticed when I'm starting the bike and I push the brake button the starting circuit quits. If this is correct how does the bike start when it's completely assembled and both brake buttons are pressed in? Does this allow for spark? Confused?!

Your last comment leads me to believe that the wiring has a ground fault somewhere.
Normal procedure is to squeeze brake lever, which lights the brake light, and completes the starter motor circuit.
If your brake light is ON and no lever is squeezed, then I would first remove tail light bulb and test for proper continuity in each filament. Hope I am understanding the scenario... :urban:

Your new coil and CDI are possibly still the problem.
If it were me trying to find the reason for no spark, I would start switching
known, good units in until something worked.

Those cheap cdi boxes usually suck. I had one work once but only kept it as a spare where I knew it functioned after testing. Never left it on any rigs to avoid failure on the road. I have spare stock cdi now for troubleshooting. Grab a used stock cdi you won't regret it. I would go through every bullet connector in the wiring harness make sure they are all clean and tightly connected. It was also mentioned about checking the plug cap that is a vey good idea. It would be worth unscrewing the whole plug wire from the coil and checking it with a meter.
