Weird Carb issues?? Maybe Choke?

Post by RiverSpree »

So the other night I took my carb all apart and cleaned it, ported my exhaust, and intake. Took the bike out she started right up and ran like a raped ape.

The problem is I ran it uptown, i let it sit and cool down and it wouldn't start.. I haven't been able to get it to fire since. I am not getting fuel to the cylinder. I have fuel from the petcock to the carb.

I have messed with the air screw and idle screw and can only get it to stumble. Any help??

My idle screw doesn't seem to change the rpm at all, am i missing something?

All stock bike except for the porting.

If you don't have enough vacuum to pull the gas up to the cylinder, the crank seal behind the drive pulley may have come out.

THE VACUUM IS WORKING. I CAN SEE THE FUEL THROUGH MY FUEL LINE, AND THE BOWL GETS FUEL AS WELL.

It also defuels when running wide open, and will not stay idling after running hard

It sounds like your porting may have caused an air leak. That will cause it to over-heat and soft-sieze. There is no way to "port" the intake for better performance. It is designed to work as is. All you have done is create a problem. In my opinion. Replace those "ported" parts with original parts and I bet it will run again.

Merp.. well that sucks..

I have another spree I will swap parts and see what happens..

Which sucks.. I read a lot of post all over about guys porting exhaust, and intakes and getting better performance.

In your first post, it wouldn't start due to lack of gas to cylinder. Now it "defuels when running wide open". Maybe petcock issues?

update..

I got her to idle, but rev's super high..
no difference when adjusting throttle cable. she also was just all around bogged down.

Since then I can't get her to fire. I have a ton of vacuum if I cover the intake with my hand. It will pull fuel. i can see fuel spraying past the opening and the spark plug is wet.

I am at a loss at what it could be..? Choke?

I swapped the choke with a different one, but same results.

I have spark when the plug is pulled and held to a ground

Are you SURE that the throttle slide is in correctly. The long slot on the slide should be lined up with a small peg inside the carb. If not in correctly, the slide will not go down, causing high rev
