Help-Starter Pinion gets stuck

Post by mike1977 »

Help! I have a 1986 Honda Aero 50, I need to know how to fix this problem.
When I hit the starter button the starter pinion engages and gets stuck. When I rotate the flywheel it goes back in. When I use the kickstarter pedal it turns over but when it returns it gets stuck with the starter pinion stuck again? I replace the starter pinion with a new one and it does the same thing.
Thanks

Seems odd that the starter pinion would engage when the kickstarter is used.

Are there any mis-match parts used like flywheel, beltcover, variator boss, etc... from a different bike?

How are the teeth on the flywheel? Even one bad one would wreak havoc.

Check the gear mesh on pinion-to-flywheel. Maybe that would reveal a binding issue.

The manual recommends lube on the pinion....check that out as well. Maybe just dry and sticky?
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.
