1985 Honda Gyro stalls/Carb issue/ Tank dipping

Post by dsandwich »

Hi folks,
I put a new battery in my Gyro and it purred for a full day. Now, the bike starts, then seems to use up all the fuel in the carb, then stalls. If i give it any gas, it stalls out. My gut says the two are unrelated but I had to mention it anyway.. If I had to guess, I'd say something broke free in my fuel tank and gunked up the carb. If anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate the help.

That said, I am wondering if anyone has put in an inline fuel filter on their Gyro, and what they recommend.

Also, has anyone dipped their tank? What product did you use? I considered doing it on an old motorcycle 20 years ago, but I never bothered. I'm not sure which products are out there/ tried and true/nice and simple. I also have a 1982 Honda MB5. I might as well dip that tank while I'm at it. Anyone have some recommendations?

Thanks, as always,

Rich

My '85 Gyro S has acted the same way for 6 years.
Always restarts after a few seconds...then acts just fine.
Stay away from Kreem...Better is POR15, best IMHO is Caswells, look at their products.
For the purpose of cleaning only, Evaporust is a little pricey, but safe on paint and can be re-used.
Safe for the environment too.
Many methods and products exist, simple vinegar pretty effective too.
DON'T coat ANY tank if it doesn't REALLY need it... :urban:

As always, thanks Motormike. Been watching a lot of videos using vinegar to clean out the tank. Saw a nice article on POR15, and another post that said what you said-- Stay away from Kreem. I'll look at Caswell's when I have a chance. I appreciate the help.

Riders here are using Caswells or Red-Kote with the best results.
