Fuel getting to carb??? Honda spree

Hey all, I was wondering as to how I can go about determining if fuel is getting to the carb in my 84 Honda spree, thanks

Pull vacuum hose off of intake(hose from petcock to intake)
Pull fuel hose off of carb nipple and watch.(hose from petcock to carb nipple)
Suck on the end of that vacuum hose.
As a result, fuel should flow freely when sucked, and stop when you stop sucking.
Pay attention to which hose you suck on.
Of course, you can pull vacuum by other means, such as a vacuum pump.
If flow is achieved, petcock is functioning and tank screen is clear.
Reattach everything and crank engine over.
After 10-15 seconds of cranking, enough fuel should be in the bowl to test
by opening the bowl drain and observe. Does fuel come out ?
If Yes, then engine is creating vacuum.
If No, then the vacuum source from the engine is compromised by crank seal or internal damage.
If fuel flows when engine is being cranked, with fuel hose OFF of carb,
then the float needle and float need to be cleared and checked for operation.

Typically, giving your carb a good thorough cleaning is a good place to start. Holes in the pilot circuit, float needle seat, emulsion tube and main jet, etc.. are so small that the tiniest particle or varnish (the result of fuel sitting for some time) can render your scoot inoperable. http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?t ... ture_Guide

Thanks for the input guys, yeah currently the engine will not turn over, I'm going to go try out the mentioned procedure and will let you know the result.

WHY doesn't the engine turn over ?...battery dead ?...cylinder hydro-locked ?

If the engine wont even TURN OVER then lack of fuel is not the problem....Maybe its just a poor choice of words on your part? Will the motor ROTATE when trying to start or is it frozen?

I understand its an 84' which is not equipped with a kickstart so youre dependent on the electric starter. We need to know what happens when you press the button...completely nothing or just Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat with no fire?

That eliminates the issue of a clogged in-tank filter, faulty petcock or plugged fuel/vacuum lines.

The process of elimination of possible problems can be done in different ways and it really depends who you ask to which order they are performed. For me, I like to do the very easy/simple and accessible things first to gather clues that point to the problem.

I suggest you remove the sparkplug clean it off best you can with a rag. Check for proper gap and shove it back into the coil wire and let it hang there. Check for spark by pushing the start button and looking at the plug tip.

If you have spark, install the plug(still nice and dry from earlier) into the motor and try to start it for 5-10 seconds. Remove plug and see if the plug tip is now wet with fuel.

Return to the forum with results from these tests.

If you mean the sparkplug plug that goes on top of it when it's in the motor I did try that, there was no spark...and I just went out and bought a new sparkplug and wound up with the same result, the motor just goes weh-weh-weh-weh. The motor itself does move

Youve determined that fuel is reaching the sparkplug.

there was no spark...and I just went out and bought a new sparkplug and wound up with the same result, the motor just goes weh-weh-weh-weh.

How do you expect it to ignite the fuel with no spark? .....Fuel + Spark = Ignition!
