87 Spree

Post by Meycom »

I came across a 87 Spree at my in-laws in the shed, he dairy farmed and now just raises cattle.
It's in pristine condition other than being absolutely filthy!
My wife's younger sister used it at college and hasn't been out since 92.
Ordered a battery, air filter. It had the old oil and gas which I'm draining.
Other than give it a cleaning, what else would you folks recommend?
I'm just trying to get it running and it will up for sale. I'm helping them out,
So please don't treat me too harshly....
Should I flush the oil tank?

Other than give it a cleaning, what else would you folks recommend?..remove petcock and clean screen tube
replace all hoses
remove and thoroughly clean carburetor following Wikispreedia instruction
drain and fill gear box
replace dry-rotted tires and tubes
lubricate cables and other tricky spots
replace spark plug

Should I flush the oil tank? be a good idea

JeffThose suggestions are good start for you. Be smart and decide if the investment in parts and time is worth the anticipated return. You may decide to sell as a fixxer-upper.
